Salalah: The death of small crustaceans, such as juvenile shrimp and krill, along parts of the Dhofar coast has been attributed to natural climatic factors, according to officials.
Experts noted that sudden changes in water temperature, reduced levels of dissolved oxygen and the impact of strong marine currents are among the key reasons behind the phenomenon. These conditions can push such species into unsuitable environments, affecting their survival.
A field team from the Fisheries Research Centre in Dhofar inspected several locations and confirmed that no signs of environmental pollution or deaths of other marine species were recorded.
The findings suggest that the incident is a natural occurrence, with specialists highlighting that such crustaceans are highly sensitive to fluctuations in marine conditions.
